Your Perfect Spring Day From Our Saskatoon Hotel: Rain, Clouds, or Shine

Enjoy a walk along the South Saskatchewan River from our Saskatoon hotel on a sunny day in spring.

Enjoy a walk along the South Saskatchewan River from our Saskatoon hotel on a sunny day in spring.

Saskatoon is known as the sunniest city in Canada with its central location along with a warm and dry atmosphere in the summer months. However, spring can be a different story. With unpredictable weather in late-March to late-May, average precipitation usually reaches 80 millimetres, with an average temperature of between 0-20°C during the day.

There’s still plenty to see and do from both inside and outside our Saskatoon hotel during all kinds of weather. Here we offer a few examples.

Sunshine in the City

As one of the most picturesque cities in Western Canada, a sunny day in Saskatoon can mean a lot. Going for a walk and stopping for a bite to eat and a coffee or glass of locally brewed suds along the way are just the start. Tourism Saskatoon has a number of suggested itineraries that include nature walks and trails in and around the city.

One of the most intriguing includes a walk along the South Saskatchewan River to The Weir just south of the CPR Bridge. Here you can find a surprising visitor in April: American White Pelicans, who stop to feed in the weir on their journey from the south. After bird watching, take the pedestrian walkway on the CPR Bridge across to the Meewasin Trail near the University of Saskatchewan, where there are a number of places to eat and drink, including:

  • Alexander’s Restaurant and Bar
  • Le Crepe Bistro (in the Place Riel Student Centre)
  • Choices at St. Thomas More College (serving breakfast and lunch buffet)
  • The Canadian Brewhouse
  • Boffins Public House

Cloudy with a Chance of Fun

Saskatoon is the site of a number of indoor attractions, museums and art galleries that are ideal to visit on a cloudy day. Some of these include popular Saskatoon tourism sites include the:

•    Museum of Natural Sciences
•    Western Development Museum
•    Nutrien Wonderhub (formerly the Children’s Discovery Museum, expected to open soon)
•    Ukrainian Museum of Canada
•    Remai Modern
•    Museum of Antiquities
•    Wanuskewin Heritage Park

After your visit, why not check out the MidTown Plaza, which is easily accessible from our Saskatoon highway hotel via the Louis Riel Trail. As Saskatchewan’s premier fashion destination, the MidTown Plaza shipping centre features more than 150 retailers and nearby restaurants.
